Boris Johnson has backed the Clean Air campaign and committed himself to legally binding targets to reduce pollution, through its inclusion in the Queen’s Speech on Monday.
Yesterday, Imperial College research was published highlighting the issues with air quality in London’s green spaces. It noted the following spaces that exceed EU safe limits of NO2: Homefield Recreation Ground, the green on Wolseley Gardens, Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre, the green on Manor Gardens, the green on Wellesley Road, St Michael and All Angel’s Church yard, Eyot Green and St Peter’s Church yard.
“I am very pleased that our Prime Minister is taking this incredibly important issue so seriously.
The Clean Air Act of 1956, introduced in response to London’s Great Smog is in much need of review and it is time that we introduce something which is appropriate for today’s world.
We are all aware of the consequences of breathing poor quality air on our physical and mental health. The residents of this constituency deserve better.
This new legislation will improve our environment and improve the quality of the air we breathe.”
